Police are searching for two suspects after a man was shot Thursday outside the VA Hospital.
According to Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland, officers responded around 9:11 p.m. after the hospital’s police team reported a gunshot victim near the entrance along Fresno Street.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Police believe two men were involved in the shooting.
One suspect is believed to have fired a single round from a gun, while the second person is also considered a suspect based on his actions, Hoagland said.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the second person was armed.
Officers say the suspects fled the area on foot, and no vehicles are believed to be involved.
A large perimeter was established shortly after the shooting as officers searched for the suspects, Hoagland said.
One suspect was later arrested, Hoagland said. The other possible suspect has not been found.
Authorities located one shell casing.
Investigators believe the shooting may have occurred on the west side of Fresno Street, while the victim was found on the east side directly in front of the VA hospital.
Police also confirmed the victim had no business at the VA hospital and never entered the facility.
Officials believe the individuals involved were on the street when the incident occurred.
Hoagland said the descriptions of the suspects have not been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
