Two decades after Hannah Montana first sashayed onto Disney Channel and lodged “The Best of Both Worlds” permanently into America’s brain, Los Angeles is getting a very sparkly dose of Disney-fied nostalgia.
Next weekend, on March 21 and 22, The Grove will host a free Hannah Montana pop-up that invites fans to step inside a real-life version of the character’s glam closet, just ahead of the new Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which begins streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on March 24.
The pop-up is a partnership between Maybelline New York and Disney and it sounds engineered in a lab to delight anyone who spent the late 2000s wishing they, too, could whip off a wig and become a pop star by night. According to details from organizers, the immersive setup is inspired by Hannah’s “legendary glam closet,” reimagining one of the show’s most memorable sets as a walk-through fan experience. Inside, guests can stop by interactive Maybelline glam stations to try out bold beauty looks inspired by Hannah’s stage-ready style. After that, there’s a Polaroid photo moment, so get ready to pose, preen and mentally cue up “Nobody’s Perfect.”
The L.A. edition runs from 11am to 8pm on Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22, at The Grove, located at 189 The Grove Drive. The event is free, no RSVP is required and entry is first-come, first-served.
As for the streaming special itself, Disney says it will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and feature an interview with Miley Cyrus hosted by Alex Cooper, along with archival footage and revived set pieces from the series, including the Stewart family living room and, fittingly, the closet that inspired this whole pop-up in the first place.
In other words, the Hannahversary machine is fully operational. And for one weekend in L.A., your best of both worlds is apparently nostalgia and free makeup.
