History

BUTLER, Penn. — Oakland (1-15, 0-1 HL) fell to Youngstown State (2-13, 1-0 HL) with a final score of 6–5 at Pullman Park Friday afternoon. Oakland rallied with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by two home runs, but Youngstown State secured the win with two runs in the eighth.

Fifth-year Kyle Revere led the offense with the first grand slam of the season for the Black and Gold, securing four RBIs, contributing two hits, and a run. Redshirt-sophomore Tony Konopiots added to the scoreboard with a home run. Junior right-hander Jordan Dahlof pitched 5.2  innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits, and recorded one strikeout.

Oakland fell behind as Youngstown State scored twice in the first inning. A two-RBI single gave the opponent the head start before the Penguins extended their lead to 3–0 with a home run.

Oakland responded in the fourth inning when Konopiots hit a solo home run to left field on the 2-2 pitch, reducing the deficit to 3–1.

The fifth inning marked a pivotal moment for the Golden Grizzlies. Revere hit a home run to left field with the bases loaded, driving in four runs, and propelling Oakland to a 5–3 lead.

Youngstown State narrowed the gap in the sixth inning with RBI single before they regained the lead in the eighth frame with a two-RBI single, solidifying the score.

Dahlof pitched 5.2 innings for Oakland, allowing four earned runs on six hits, while picking up a strikeout and allowing two walks. Junior Blake Sehlke relieved Dahlof, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing one earned run on one hit and a strikeout at the plate. Sophomore Andrew Landis finished the game, pitching 2/3 of an inning, giving up an run on a hit.

Oakland and Youngstown State will play game two of the series tomorrow at Pullman Park in Butler, Penn. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. ET.
