A pedestrian was killed late Thursday after entering southbound Interstate 280 in San Jose, and the driver who struck him fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers were called at about 10:20 p.m. to reports of a person walking against traffic on the 10th Street off-ramp, CHP San Jose said in a statement Friday.
When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive in the far-right lane of southbound I-280. He had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, according to the agency.

Investigators are treating the case as a hit-and-run because the vehicle left the scene, according to CHP. The agency asked witnesses to contact its San Jose office.
