For the remainder of 2025, Musica Vitali will fill Coronado with music, music that is captivating and affordable. Starting on Sunday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m., a new music series, Music on Fifth, will make its debut at Resurrection Lutheran Church with the intent of performing once a month. The three singers from Musica Vitali, Coronado’s professional choir, will perform a recital concert featuring solos and duets from operas and musicals. A suggested donation of $20, all of which will go towards paying the artists, will be collected at the door.
Elena Vizuet, the conductor of Musica Vitali, Coronado Community Chorale, and the Chamber ensemble says, “My thought process was being more present in the community. There is a group of people who love classical music, and we want to make it readily available. We have people who sing with the San Diego Opera, with the Tijuana opera.”
Those who enjoy singing welcome opportunities to perform, so the small, intimate venue of the Lutheran Church allows the three singers and the pianist to display their talent. All four performers have very impressive biographies. Tenor Alberto Estanol from Tijuana sings with the Tijuana opera. He has performed as a soloist in various projects throughout the state, including the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda by Moreno Torroba, the opera Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, and with the Pro Música Ensenada Choir, where he made his solo debut in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
Carly Cummings sings with San Diego opera and with San Diego United Methodist Church. She won the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Emerging Artist Competition and took second place in the prestigious Virginia Hawk competition.
Rachel Fields is a soprano vocalist and trumpet player. A graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA, Rachel has performed alongside the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, has appeared as a guest artist with the Spokane Symphony and San Diego Symphony.
The pianist Olena Galytska is a professor at Ensenada University, and she also teaches at SDU.
This Concert Chamber program is titled Trills and Frills because “We want our first program to be kind of exciting, bubbly, and joyful with very popular arias…These are the people who sing in the group (Musica Vitali) but are capable of singing solo. They have a wonderful repertoire to share with us, a delightful collection of popular solos and duets from famous La Boheme, Traviata, Barber of Seville, The Phantom of the Opera and many others. An utterly beautiful program sung by talented young singers will satisfy any music aficionado’s appetite,” Vizuet says.
Vizuet is eager to have children introduced to operatic music, since many never have the opportunity to experience live quality music. Sitting in an audience and listening to classical music can be life changing and will certainly separate them from their daily routine. With the convenience of having multiple concerts in our backyard and affordable tickets, parents should consider treating their children to these amazing venues.
Add future musical events to your calendar, and search the web for more information: www.musicavitale.com. A collaborative effort of the Coronado Concert Band, Crown City Chorale, and Musica Vitale for the Veteran’s Day Tribute will be on Nov. 11th at 7:00 p.m.
The Chamber series continues Nov 16th at the Lutheran Church with a quartet of musicians from the GHUKASYAM Orchestra. A string orchestra of outstanding musicians including the founder and the artistic director will present chamber music. The selections will be recognizable, not too obscure or elaborate. Another concert in early December will be solos and duets.
Besides the Chamber series, the other choral groups will present Christmas programs in December. Musica Vitali has Music of Italy at Christ Episcopal Church on December 12th at 7:30. A Sing Along will be held at the library on December 20th.
Celebrating its 20th year in Coronado, Musica Vitali is alive with a variety of music from its three music groups. Vizuet urges, “Please come and help us launch our new concert chamber series Music on Fifth!”
