The Will C. Wood High school track and field teams swept Sacramento on Wednesday, winning 105-20 in the boys competition, and 90-13 in the girls competition.
Deshawn Seymour Jr. led the way for the boys team, winning the 100-meter dash (10.69 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.97) and 4-by-100 relay alongside Kallen Richey, Timmothy Pinkney and Azaireon Taylor (42.82).
Kosygin Rodriguez-Outlaw followed behind Seymour, taking home victories in the 110-meter hurdles (15.58) and 300-meter hurdles (41.64). Richey added wins in the high jump (five feet, four inches), long jump (20-10.5) and triple jump (39).
The Wildcats also received wins from Pinkney in the 400 (53.28), Alex Pelayo in the 800 (2:02.90), Cristian Corona in the 1600 (4:39.99) and Elliott Ginyard in the discus (107-0.25) and pole vault (8-10).
The Wood girls team was led by Michelle Hughes and Ciarra Parker. Hughes won the 100 (12.90) and 200 (26.76), while Parker finished first in the 400 (1:06.98) and 800 (2:48.37). They both won the 4-by-100 alongside Ryann Birdsong and Jazmyn Sergeant.
Lea Pendergraft and Jaimee Reed also shined. Pendergraft won the high jump (4-2) and pole vault (7-10), while Reed won the shot put (30-0.5) and discus (72).
“Outstanding marks to start the season,” Wood head coach Frank Kapele said. “These kids have worked hard these last three months and it showed.”
Boys volleyball
Vanden 3, Wood 0
The Vanden High School boys volleyball team picked up its second straight win, sweeping Wood 25-9, 25-19, 25-15 on Wednesday.
The Vikings improved to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the Monticello Empire League. Vanden will look to keep rolling against River City on Monday.
Vacaville 3, River City 0
The Vacaville High School boys volleyball team pulled out a tight third set to sweep River City 25-9, 25-13, 25-23 on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the MEL. Vacaville will continue its season in the Granite Bay Invitational, which begins on Saturday.
Lindhurst 3, Vacaville Christian 1
The Vacaville Christian High School boys volleyball team fell 25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 29-27 to Lindhurst in a competitive Sierra Delta League contest on Wednesday.
The Falcons dropped to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the SDL. Vacaville Christian will aim to bounce back against Mesa Verde on Monday.
