SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Police say a man found injured near 49th Street and Perry Avenue was not shot, despite initial reports of possible gunfire.
Officers responded to the area after a call about a person who hopped a fence into the caller’s backyard. Authorities say officers on scene did hear gunshots, and that aspect of the incident remains under investigation.
Detectives later determined the man’s injuries were caused by a fence while he was fleeing. Police say the incident began with a felony hit-and-run that led officers to search the neighborhood.
The suspect was briefly detained but has since been released from custody to undergo surgery and receive medical treatment. The hit-and-run and reported gunfire investigations are ongoing.
