Michael W. Kew
OBITUARY
Michael William Kew was born on May 2, 1943, in Temple, Texas, to Stephen and Rosalie Kew of Point Loma. On Feb. 3, 2026, at the age of 82, Michael passed peacefully in Encinitas, CA.
A jovial soul liked by everyone, Michael grew up in Point Loma, CA and attended Point Loma High where he was voted “Mr. Personality.” He enjoyed surfing Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs, sailing, playing football, and socializing. He attended the University of Colorado where he met Jeanne Hanzlik of Santa Rosa, CA, where they wed in 1968. After a year living in Lakeside, CA, they permanently moved to Encinitas/Olivenhain, CA and raised five children, meanwhile caring for several horses, Jeanne’s passion.
Exemplifying the utmost in selflessness, first and foremost, Michael was a dedicated loving father, husband, and animal-lover. Family truly was his life’s work. Honest and sincere, his formal work comprised nearly six decades as a financial advisor throughout San Diego County.
Michael is survived by his sons Whitney (Shannon) of San Diego, CA and Michael of Brookings, OR, and by his daughters Erin of Carmichael, CA, Stephanie of Corvallis, OR, and Kirstin of Santa Cruz, CA. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Colleen and Harrison, his brothers Stephen (Terry) of Cockeysville, MD, and Richard of Bigfork, MT, and countless other loving family members and friends.
Cremation arrangements were made by Oceanside Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, any contributions may be made to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas and/or the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe.
A private remembrance will be held in Olivenhain on Michael’s birthday, and a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a date to be decided later.
