This year’s Oscars will be historic for several reasons, including a new category, which is something that hasn’t happened in more than 20 years.

A place in the record books is up for grabs this year as Hollywood gathers to celebrate the best in film, but every once in a while a ceremony comes along that doesn’t just celebrate history, it makes it.

Joelle Garguilo has more on the films and actors that could make history at the 98th Academy Awards.

But even before the awards are handed out, some history has already been made.

“‘Sinners,’ all time nomination record, 16. Beat out ‘Titanic,’ ‘All About Eve,’ ‘La La Land,’ they got 14 nominations,” said Clayton Davis, Chief Awards Editor for Variety. “This is monumental for ‘Sinners.’ It’s also the most individual Black nominees that have come from one single movie in history.”

This year’s ceremony also marks the first time the Academy has introduced a new category since 2001: Best Achievement in Casting to recognize the people who find your favorite stars.

So who else could deliver something that has never happened before?
