CLOVIS, Calif. (FOX26) — Clovis Police arrested 9 people and gave 3 stores citations for selling alcohol to minors during a safety operation.
The Clovis Police Department conducted a “Shoulder Tap” operation and a ” Minor Decoy” operation.
The Shoulder Tap Operation targets adults who purchase alcohol for people under the age of 21.
During the operation, a minor working under the direct supervision of law enforcement stands outside a liquor or convenience store and asks customers to buy alcohol.
The minor also tells the customer they are underage and cannot purchase the alcohol.
This resulted in 9 people being arrested.
The penalty for buying alcohol for a minor is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service.
The “Minor Decoy” Operation, in which minors under the direct supervision of department agents, attempted to purchase alcohol from the store.

Clerks who sell to a minor face a minimum fine of $250 and 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation.
The store could also have its alcohol license revoked.
