The Bay Area, along with the Central Coast, is experiencing an unusual heat wave this week. After many weeks of rain, the warm weather and sun started last week, and will continue with rising temperatures through Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Bay Area and the central coast starting at Monday, 10 am, through Friday, 8 pm. Temperatures are predicted to reach the upper 80s to mid-90s in the interiors and in the 80s along the coast.
The NWS warns that the unusually high temperatures can cause heat illness if outdoors, especially during physical activity. To stay safe, the NWS suggests staying hydrated, taking breaks, spending time in the shade, and helping others if needed.
There is a moderate heat risk Sunday through Wednesday as well. This means there is a moderate risk of heat illness to those sensitive to the heat, which includes the elderly, infants, athletes, outdoor workers, or those with chronic illness. The NWS suggests shifting outdoor activities to cooler times of day, if possible, and taking breaks in cool areas.
Forecast in San Francisco
San Franciscans can expect highs in the 80s Monday through Friday, with the highest temperature on Tuesday at 88. Wednesday through Friday will also have similarly high temperatures in the mid 80s. Thankfully, the forecast shows lower nighttime temperatures, with lows in the 50s to 60s.
How to stay cool
Since heat waves are rare in San Francisco, AC in homes is uncommon. Luckily, many San Francisco public libraries have air conditioning, and they are great public spaces to stay cool. The main library on Market Street is a designated cooling center, along with the Chinatown and North Beach branches. You can find a full list of public libraries that serve as cooling centers here.
