Box Score BUTLER, Penn. — The Oakland baseball team (3-15, 2-1 HL) secured a comeback 4–3 victory over Youngstown State (2-15, 2-1 HL) to claim the series Sunday afternoon at Pullman Park. Oakland’s decisive moment came in the seventh inning when it scored three runs, capitalizing on base running and Youngstown State’s defensive miscues. The Penguins managed a brief lead with two runs in the sixth frame, but Oakland’s pitching held firm in the final out to preserve the win.

Sophomore Sam Patton led Oakland with three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Freshman right-hander Ben Green pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out three at the plate. Redshirt-senior Jack Lux continued a hot streak over the weekend, contributing two hits and an RBI as redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day and junior Ben Clark also picked up two hits on the day from the batter’s box.

After two scoreless, the home team took the lead in the third inning with an RBI single into left field. By the fifth inning, the Golden Grizzlies tied the board. Patton singled, and fifth-year Kyle Revere doubled down the left field line, allowing Patton to score.

Youngstown State regained the lead in the sixth frame with an RBI groundout and later scored on a wild pitch.

Oakland responded with the big seventh inning. Patton doubled and later scored on a throwing error, as Lux and Day added RBI singles, scoring Konopiots and grad senior Carter Hain for the tie and go-ahead runs.

After Green’s 4.1 innings of work, grad senior Camden Cooper contributed an inning of relief, yielding two earned runs on one hit. Junior Owen Thomson’s performance on the mound was notable as he pitched 2.2 innings scoreless, only allowing one hit and picking up two strikeouts, earning the win. Sophomore Andrew Landis closed the game with a scoreless inning, securing the save with one strikeout and inducing a double play.

Oakland will head back to the mitten and take on Eastern Michigan for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, March 17 in Ypsilanti before the Eagles travel to Rochester for nine innings on Wednesday, March 18. Both games are streamed on ESPN+.
