SAN JOSE, CA — A 38-year-old man who was wanted by authorities in Santa Clara County on allegations of assault with a deadly weapon had a loaded, assault-style rifle when he was arrested, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Jose Murrillo Medina was arrested Wednesday after he was wanted for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a knife and a screwdriver. He was accused by the sheriff’s office of threatening to kill her.

Medina, who is a convicted felon, was found in the parking lot of a shopping center in San Jose by deputies on the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Felony Apprehension and Surveillance Team.

He was arrested without incident. Deputies allegedly found a loaded firearm with nine loaded magazines and over 200 rounds of ammunition in his nearby SUV, according to the sheriff’s office.
