A man is in custody after leading a pursuit that ended in a crash and then getting onto a roof at a school in Sun Valley early Monday morning.
The suspect, described as a man between 30 and 40 years old, was seen on the roof of a building at Byrd Middle School on the 8500 block of Arleta Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the pursuit began shortly before 4 a.m.
The man crashed into the front gate of the middle school and made his way onto the campus near Arleta Avenue and Wicks Street.
After the standoff, the man jumped off of the roof and was taken into custody. He was later transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
NewsChopper4 was over the scene where the suspect was seen handcuffed to a gurney surrounded by Los Angeles city firefighters and LAPD officers.
At the request of the LAPD, the northbound off ramp of the 170 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard was shut down.
It was not clear if school would continue as usual today. NBC4 has reached out to the Los Angeles Unified School District for details.
According to the LAPD, the suspect was also sought in connection with a possible homicide.
