Fire breaks out at California, Mo., meat processing plant

Crews responded to a structure fire late Sunday night in Moniteau County.

The California Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to Cargill Meat Processing on East Smith Street around 11 p.m. for a reported fire.

Several reported that the fire could be seen in the facility’s lunchroom area and extending into the ceiling.

Firefighters entered the building and discovered flames coming from a large industrial condenser on the second floor.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and begin overhaul operations.

According to a press release, the incident was brought under control within 15 minutes of CFD’s arrival.

Fire personnel added that the fire was contained to the condenser unit and the immediate surrounding area.
