Officials launched a recovery effort after a body was found submerged in the California Aqueduct in Phelan on Monday afternoon.
The discovery was first reported about 2:45 p.m. March 16 in the aqueduct near Johnson Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department logs.

Officials requested a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department dive team to respond to the scene to assist in recovering the body, which remained underwater, according to initial reports from the scene.

The incident follows a search and rescue operation that took place Wednesday, March 11, when a person was reported to have gone into the water in Llano, officials said. No victim was found at the time.
No further details were avialable as the investigation and recovery effort continued.
