The county’s 275 outdoor warning sirens will be tested at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 as part of the statewide tornado drill. The sirens are typically tested on the first Saturday of each month from March to November.
But the state sets aside one day during Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 15 to 21, for the drill. Four tornados touched down on March 6, killing four and injuring many others.

The drill reminds people to plan how to respond to a flood, lightning strike, tornado or severe thunderstorm and to update or create a family communication plan.
County officials encourage residents to sign up for their community’s local alert system that sends text messages during emergencies and for the county’s OakAlert notification system at oakgov.com/emergency-management.
