A 5-day old infant from Novi died Tuesday morning after apparently being attacked by the family’s dog inside a home in the Oakland Glens mobile home community.

Novi Police Commander Robert Manar told The Oakland Press that police were called to the residence in the 42000 block of Libertee Drive shortly before 8:30 a.m. on a report of an unresponsive infant. “A family member reported finding the infant injured with puncture wounds,” Manar said. “Those wounds appear to be consistent with an animal attack.”

The infant was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead, Manar said.

A dog was removed from the home, he said.

It was reported earlier that a family member walked in on the attack but that’s since been determined to be inaccurate, Manar said.

Citing an ongoing investigation, Manar said no other information — including the breed and age of the dog, who else was in the home at the time and other details — is not yet being released. He also declined comment.
