New Children’s Book Debuts  

Lincoln Heights—A new children’s book, Danny’s Trail, by author Susana Porras and illustrator Danny Makin has been published by Lincoln Heights–based Legacy Publications. Makin — a U.K. stroke survivor — will visit Pasadena in May during Stroke Awareness Month for a two-week series of book talks, children’s programs and community conversations focused on resilience, creativity and recovery. The book, inspired by real locations in England, blends imagination and mindfulness while celebrating friendship and perseverance. Makin suffered a stroke in 2017 that left him with permanent disabilities and later discovered illustration during his recovery as a creative outlet that proved both therapeutic and transformative. The book is available for purchase at The Libros Lincoln Heights, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.

Restaurant receives small business award, visit from Mayor

Echo Park—Combo A received a special Certificate or Recognition from the City of Los Angeles for “strengthening the vitality of local small businesses.” Mayor Karen Bass herself presented the award in person, visited with the restaurant’s staff and had a bite to eat. “This goes out to our staff and loyal customers who make moments like this possible,” the restaurant posted on Instagram. “We appreciate each and everyone of you who continues to support local small businesses.”

Mixer

Silver Lake—The Silver Laker Chamber of Commerce will hold its Spring networking mixer ons Thursday, March 19 at The Chocolate Dispensary (1605 Grafton St Unit 102-A). The event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is free for members and $23.18 for nonmembers, and requires and RSVP.
