SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (FOX26) — An inmate died after staff found him in medical distress while medication was being dispensed, authorities said.
Medicine was dispensed to inmates at the County Jail when the staff noticed one of the inmates was having an issue and provided emergency aid.
However, despite life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead.
The inmate was identified as 48-year-old Trenidad Castilleja of San Luis Obispo.
Castilleja was arrested by the San Luis Obispo Police Department back in 2024 and had been in custody on three separate cases.
Two cases had been resolved, and he was pending sentencing on the third at the time of his death.
Authorities said Castilleja had a long history of being booked into jail, with more than 24 such occurrences since 1998.
The cause of death is unknown until an autopsy can be performed.
No foul play is suspected.
