The petition said in part, “By changing the name of Cesar E. Chavez High School, we are sending a powerful message that we do not condone abuse or violence against women and children in any form. This change would honor and validate the experiences of those who have suffered and survived, ensuring that they know the community stands with them.”

It furthermore said, “This change is not just about removing a name but about uplifting others who have positively impacted our society without causing harm.” The petition can be found here.
