A federal grand jury has indicted an Oakland man on allegations that he trafficked a 17-year-old for sex in the East Bay and San Francisco in 2021, federal prosecutors said. 

Kenyin McGee, 27, is charged with trafficking of a minor and sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of California in Fresno. McGee allegedly met the girl online in late 2020 and arranged for her to travel to Oakland in early 2021, according to U.S. Attorney’s office. 

After arriving in Oakland, McGee allegedly took the girl to a motel where he photographed her and posted the images on a website used to solicit sex workers. Prosecutors say he then sexually assaulted the girl and drove her to Oakland’s International Boulevard, directing her to have sex with men for money while keeping the earnings. 

McGee used threats to maintain control over her, authorities said, including text messages in which he threatened to shoot or kill the victim. He also took her to San Francisco, where the exploitation continued, according to prosecutors. 

The victim eventually escaped after encountering a San Francisco police officer, who connected her with local human trafficking service providers. 

The case is being investigated by the FBI and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. If convicted, McGee faces a potential life sentence, including mandatory minimum terms of 15 years for sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and 10 years for sex trafficking of a minor.Â
