A middle school student was arrested Thursday after authorities said he brought a loaded gun to school in the city of Redlands, prompting a lockdown on campus.
Officers with the Redlands Police Department responded to Moore Middle School Thursday afternoon after they received reports that a student brought a loaded firearm on campus.
Another student alerted school officials that the 12-year-old boy was showing off a bullet to other students around lunchtime.
Administrators and campus security detained the student and found the loaded gun in his backpack.
The school was placed on lockdown for several hours as the authorities searched the campus. Police later confirmed that no threats were made against the campus, students or staff.
Police and school officials determined that the student had brought the firearm from home and brought it to school to show his classmates.
The student’s parents were also arrested for improper storage of a firearm.
Anyone with information regarding crime or suspicious activity is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681 ext. 1.
