ORANGE COVE, Calif. (KFSN) — The city of Orange Cove is celebrating the grand opening of its first commercial truck driving school.

Eleven people have already started classes.

The two-month long program is designed to provide residents with high-demand vocational training and a direct pathway to stable, high-paying careers in the transportation industry.

The school is located in the old Sunkist building in Orange Cove.

It was made possible with a $23 million grant from the US Department of Commerce.

“Our organization and our partners realized it was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring what this region needs, which is high-quality training for both our employer partners and for our job seekers and community partners,” says Chris Zeitz, Vice President of Fresno County Workforce Development.

Classes for the two-month course can accommodate up to 15 people.
