A highway near San Diego’s Old Town closed after a vehicle hit a pedestrian, leaving him hospitalized. Police report he was unconscious with multiple injuries.

SAN DIEGO — A stretch of highway temporarily shut down Friday when a vehicle struck a man who was standing in the middle of the roadway near San Diego’s Old Town neighborhood.

Officers responded around 5:20 a.m. Friday to reports of a traffic incident in the 4600 block of Pacific Highway, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, although he was reportedly unconscious with multiple injuries at the time. His name and age were not immediately available.

Pacific Highway was closed in both directions between Rosecrans Street and the SeaWorld Drive. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
