VALLEY CENTER, CA — Criminal charges were not filed Tuesday against a former TV journalist who was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of opening fire on a pair of people during two separate shootings on Palomar Mountain.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office announced last week that Ricardo Berron — who previously worked at Univision and Telemundo — was a suspect in a pair of shootings that occurred months apart.

Berron was arrested last week at San Diego International Airport and booked into county jail, but was released on bail.

He was due to appear in court Tuesday, but a San Diego County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson said this week that Berron would not be arraigned as the case remains under investigation.

The first shooting occurred on Oct. 6, 2025, leaving a victim shot in the arm, according to the sheriff’s office.

The second shooting happened on Feb. 23, when a man reported that he was shot at while sitting inside his car. The victim said he was approached by a man who produced a handgun, then fired a single round through the driver’s side window, though the victim was not struck, sheriff’s officials said.

It’s unclear what led investigators to suspect Berron in the shootings, but the sheriff’s office said “similarities” between the two shootings “provided investigators with probable cause to believe the same suspect was responsible for both crimes.”

A search of Berron’s home in Chula Vista after his arrest also revealed a handgun “believed to be used in at least one of the shootings,” according to the sheriff’s office.
