BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — 14 people were arrested, and 15 dogs were seized after a multi-agency clean-up operation targeted encampments near San Miguel Park.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, the Bakersfield Police Department Community Vitality Unit, Impact Unit, and Animal Control Unit responded to the area near San Miguel Park based on community concerns of homeless encampments and vicious dogs.

City of Bakersfield Code Enforcement, Rapid Response Team, Park Rangers, and Kern County Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation Services also responded.

Police said the operation ended with 14 people arrested, 15 dog seized, 29 encampments cleaned up, and 40 tons of trash picked up.

Prior to the operation, Flood Ministries responded to the area to connect those experiencing homelessness with local service providers, according to police.

In a release, it said, “The Bakersfield Police Department recognizes the impact these quality-of-life issues have on our community and are committed to collaborative efforts to solve them.”

Operations were made possible by the Bakersfield Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure, also known as Measure N. Community Vitality is a city-led initiative that responds to homelessness-related concerns across Bakersfield.

Encampments can also be reported to the City of Bakersfield through its free Bakersfield Mobile App or through the online Service Request portal.
