SAN JOSE, Calif. – Air Force Women’s Tennis locked in its fourth win in five matches on Friday afternoon, downing San Jose State 4-2 on the road.
The Falcons (5-10, 2-1 MW) took a 1-0 lead after taking a sixth-straight doubles point and their seventh out of the last eight matches. After Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades picked up a 6-4 win on line three on the way to a 5-1 record, it was senior Arianna Van Houweling and sophomore Shivaani Selvan who clinched with a 6-4 victory on court two.
Shortly after the Spartans picked up a win on court three to tie the match, junior Nadia Kojonroj scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over SJSU’s Camila Celis. Sophomore Sofia Mavor made it a 3-1 contest, rallying from a deficit in both sets against Tara Mihaljevic to win 6-3, 7-5.
Van Houweling clinched the win for Air Force, taking Spartan Soledad Capilla in a three-set battle – her first three-set victory of the dual season.
“Today was a tough battle, and everyone who showed up delivered,” head coach Taylor Hollander said. “We go again Sunday.”
