The Hawaii softball team lost a heartbreaker against Long Beach State, then came back with a vengeance to earn a split Friday in Long Beach, Calif.

In the second game, Taryn Irimata pitched a one-hitter, and Milan Ah Yat, Maycen Gibbs and Jamie McGaughey homered as Hawaii triumphed 10-0 in five innings.

Irimata walked five and struck out two.

Ah Yat batted 3-for-3 with a grand slam, and Gibbs went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

In the first game, Hawaii took a one-run lead with a six-run fifth inning before losing 8-7 on Elissa Guerrero’s walk-off single, which scored Audree Mendoza. Earlier in the inning, Mendoza tied it with a run-scoring triple.

Millie Fidge batted 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Carys Murakami scored twice for the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawaii is 12-14 and 4-4 Big West, while Long Beach State is 18-12 and 6-2.
