The San Francisco 49ers and general manager John Lynch have been busy this offseason. Most notably, the team was able to land longtime star wide receiver Mike Evans on a three-year deal to be Brock Purdy’s new No. 1 target.

Outside of the Evans move, the 49ers have also added linebacker Dre Greenlaw, offensive tackle Vederian Lowe, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and wide receiver Christian Kirk, along with a few other moves.

San Francisco is looking the part of a potential Super Bowl contender in 2026. However, there are still ways that the team could improve its roster.

One potential need that could still be addressed is adding another pass rusher. The 49ers have been linked heavily to Nick Bosa’s brother, Joey Bosa, but another intriguing option could be available for San Francisco as well.

49ers Could Consider Projected $8.9 Million Pass Rusher

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested a potential reunion for the 49ers. He thinks that Leonard Floyd would be a possible fit after spending the 2025 season with the Atlanta Falcons.

“The aforementioned 49ers need pass-rushing help, and Floyd has provided it before,” Knox wrote. “He spent the 2024 season in San Francisco and finished with 8.5 sacks, 42 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback pressures.”

As Knox noted, Floyd would be familiar with playing in San Francisco. He has had a big impact with the franchise before. It would make sense for Lynch and company to bring him back.

Last season with the Falcons, the 33-year-old pass rusher played in 15 games. He recorded just 19 total tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks and a defended pass.

Throughout his entire 153-game NFL career, Floyd has totaled 433 tackles, 70 sacks, five forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 16 defended passes.

Spotrac has suggested a market value of $8.9 million for Floyd. They also expect a one-year deal for him.

Joey Bosa Would Be the Bigger Splash for San Francisco

While the idea of reuniting with Floyd would make a lot of sense, the 49ers should strongly pursue Joey Bosa first.

Pairing up the Bosa brothers would make for must-watch football. Both brothers have had extremely successful NFL careers. Even though the older Bosa has had struggles with injuries, he would be worth the risk.

During the 2025 NFL season with the Buffalo Bills, Bosa played in 15 games. He ended the year with 29 tackles, five sacks, five forced fumbles, and two defended passes.

He may not be the elite superstar that he once was, but he’s still capable of making a big impact. Within the elite San Francisco defense, Bosa could find a second wind.

Should Bosa choose to sign elsewhere, Floyd would be a perfect fallback option. Fans shouldn’t be surprised if the 49ers do end up signing a veteran pass rusher to pair with Nick Bosa in free agency.
