A speeding motorcyclist who wore no helmet while driving his vehicle with no lights on was fatally injured in a head-on crash with a bicyclist in Long Beach, authorities said Saturday.
Officers dispatched to the San Gabriel River Trail, south of the San Diego (405) Freeway, at about 8:15 p.m. Friday located the biker and bicyclist receiving medical aid from bystanders, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Paramedics rushed the two critically injured men to a hospital, where the motorcyclist later died from his injuries.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on the San Gabriel River Trail when he collided head-on with a bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction,” according to a police statement. “Both parties were ejected from their vehicles and suffered critical injuries.”
“Witnesses stated that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed without a helmet or lights,” according to the statement. “Impaired and distracted driving are not believed to be contributing factors in the collision.”
