Police tape at crime scene

A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening after losing control on Interstate 5 and being run over by another motorist’s vehicle in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP’s South Sacramento office received a report around 10 p.m. of a crash on Interstate 5 near Pocket Road. Officers found the rider in the roadway in the No. 3 lane, the agency said.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to overturn and eject the rider into the lane,” the CHP said in a news release. “The rider was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle.”

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

“The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators,” the CHP said.

Officials said alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The identity of the motorcyclist will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after next of kin are notified.
