SAN JOSE – The UConn baseball team (10-13) lost 6-4 against San Diego State behind four UConn errors on Saturday afternoon.
The Aztecs scored three runs in the first inning after a pair of walks and two errors in the frame.Â
With the help of another fielding error in the second the Aztecs took a 4-0 lead.Â
UConn was able to get guys on base but struggled to hit when it mattered. The Huskies went 0-12 with runners in scoring position.Â
The long ball was the Huskies best friend on Saturday with three home runs on the day.Â
Chris Polemeni got the Huskies on the board in the fifth with an 11-pitch at bat that resulted in a two-run home run to left field. It was the fourth home run of the year for the Staten Island, N.Y. native.
In the sixth, the Huskies tied the game with back-to-back home runs from Peyton Jemison and Gaby Tirado.Â
Austin Trumpour was great out of the UConn bullpen and got out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings before a quick 1-2-3 frame in the seventh.Â
Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Trumpour looked like he got out of a jam with a fly out to right but the Huskies right fielder tripped before making the catch to give San Diego State the lead.Â
Next up, the Huskies play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET against San Diego State and game two starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
