The old Lao-Thai Restaurant with the wagon wheels out front on Cesar Chavez Boulevard is gone and something new is being built in its place.
The building sits in front of the Asian Village shopping center. But there’s no sign saying what it is.
It will be a Bank of America.
The banking giant confirmed it is constructing the new building from the ground up on the spot. It is scheduled to open between October and December .
It will have multiple ATMs and be a “more modern, full service branch in a high traffic location.” It will not have a drive-thru.
The bank will take the place of two other nearby Bank of America locations, which are slated to close, according to media relations executive Colleen Haggerty.
The Sunnyside branch on Kings Canyon Road near Tractor Supply and the East Fresno branch at 4445 E. Tulare St. are both slated to close after the new location opens, she said. Leases at both locations are expiring.
Employees will move to the new location.
The new Bank of America sits in front of Asian Village, a shopping center that is home to several Asian businesses. They include Her Supermarket, Yolo Sushi and more.
The spot where Bank of America is building has been home to several businesses over the years, including the Lao-Thai Restaurant, Sweet & Sour Mart and Deli, and the Dok Champa Hmong clothing store.
