LONG BEACH, Calif.—The University of Hawai’i softball team (13-14, 5-4 Big West) rallied to scored two runs in the sixth inning for a com-from-behind win over Long Beach State, 3-2. The win clinched Hawai’i’s first series over The Beach since 2019. UH pitcher Taryn Irimata threw five shutout innings in relief to earn the win.

Irimata earned both wins of the series. She allowed just one hit over her five innings of work with a walk and two strikeouts. In her two appearances in Long Beach, she did not allow a run in nine total innings.  Hannah Pitts threw the first two innings of the game and allowed two runs on two hits.

LBSU’s leadoff batter Lina Apodaca was hit by a pitch to begin the home half of the first. She worked her way around the bases and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pricilla Iniguez for a 1-0 lead.
 
Hawai’i’s Millie Fidge then launched her third home run in the last four games. Her opposite field shot sailed over the rightfield fence knotted the game at 1-1.
 
But The Beach would re-take the lead in the second after Brookly Lee hit a triple and later came home on an infield single to short for a 2-1 lead.
 
UH’s Carys Murakmi led off the sixth with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitcg. Maycen Gibbs then ripped a single to left to score Murakami from second. On the play, Gibbs hustled into third on a throwing error by the leftfielder. Jamie McGaughey then drove in Gibbs with a sacrifice fly as UH claimed the lead for the first time in the game,, 3-2.
 
Irimata would retire the last six batters in a row to seal the win.

It is just the second time in UH history that the ‘Bows won a seriess in Long Beach. The first time was in 1001 when UH won 3-of-4 games. It is just the fourth time in history that UH has won a series against Long Beach State (1991, ’94, 2019, and ’26).

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host CSUN in a threen game conference series. The ‘[Bows and Matadors will face each other in a single game on Friday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. HT with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28tg starting AT 12:00 p.m. HT.
