FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office warns the public about a possible asphalt paving scam targeting residents with offers of discounted driveway work.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said it has received information about individuals posing as contractors who approach homeowners door-to-door and offer driveway paving services at a discount.

These contractors have been reported more in the area of Shaver Lake.

The sheriff’s office urged residents not to do business with them.

Doing so could result in victims paying upfront, having no work completed, ending up with poor-quality work, or being pressured to pay more money than was verbally agreed upon after the job begins.

The sheriff’s office also advised residents to be skeptical of any business conducting door-to-door sales.

It is recommended to seek out contractors on your own and verify they are licensed and insured through the California Contractors State License Board.

Residents are also encouraged to require a written contract that includes the company’s name, address, phone number, license number, and a detailed scope of work.

It is recommended to avoid cash payments and use a check or credit card to ensure there is a record of the transaction.
