SACRAMENTO — Sophomore Nick Bowles won his match at No. 4, but that was the lone Hornet singles win in a 6-1 loss to Northern Arizona on Saturday.
The Hornets fell to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the Big Sky Conference, while Northern Arizona (defending Big Sky regular season champs) improved to 11-5 and 3-0 in league. Bowles is now a team-best 9-4 in singles play this spring, including six victories in his last seven matches.
Bowles won his match in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-2), and Martin Duris (No. 1) dropped a narrow decision of 4-6, 7-6 (3), and 14-12 in the super tiebreaker.
In doubles play, the Hornet tandem of Duris/Sebastian Vlahos won their match at No. 3 by a 6-4 score, but NAU won at Nos. 1 and 2 to secure the doubles point.
Sacramento State plays three times next week at home – Tuesday vs. UC Riverside at 1 p.m., Wednesday vs. UC San Diego at noon, and Saturday vs. Jessup at 3 p.m.
