The city of Chula Vista and developer CalWest marked a milestone Thursday, March 5, with the groundbreaking of Citrus Bay Park, a new public space designed to celebrate the city’s historic ties to citrus production.

The park will be at 565 Broadway.

The park, part of CalWest’s Citrus Bay residential community on the former Sears site, is a key element in the broader Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment.

Citrus Bay Park is part of a 535-acre project to transform the Bayfront into a destination with new parks, open spaces, restored habitats, and expanded public access. Approximately 230 acres will be dedicated to parks and open space, including promenades, bike trails, and waterfront access connecting residents, visitors, and local businesses.

The projected cost of development is $1.846 million.

The adjacent Citrus Bay community will feature 244 new townhomes in two distinct designs, alongside a private recreation center and pool. Homes range from two-story motor-court residences to three-story attached courtyard homes, with prices starting in the mid $500,000s.
