People are seeing hours-long lines at some airports, as more than 11.5% of the TSA workforce called out nationwide on Saturday.

TSA says places like Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta and New York’s JFK all had callout rates between about 30% and 40%.

The shortage is a result of the government shutdown because TSA workers aren’t getting paid. Lawmakers are still disagreeing how to pay for the Department of Homeland Security.

Here in the Bay Area, SFO has contract employees doing security so the TSA worker call out won’t have as big of an impact. But even though the local airports won’t be getting the ice agents for now, the call out of those workers will sitll impact travelers.

ABC News is reporting that ICE will be coming to these airports, but the list is subject to change:

Chicago-O’Hare International Airport
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport
Houston’s Bush intercontential
John F. Kennedy International Airport (New York)
LaGuardia Airport (New York)
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
Newark Liberty International Airport
Philadelphia International Airport
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
Pittsburgh International Airport
Southwest Florida International Airport (Fort Myers, Florida)

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi spoke Sunday saying that she has concerns over ICE agents in airports.

“It’s completely wrong, ICE agents are not trained for the job they have now,” she said.

Reaction from some travelers at the airport are mixed with some agreeing with Pelosi’s take and others telling ABC7 Eyewitness News that they’d like to see ICE agents here.
