FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly wrong-way crash in Oakland County, according to police.
The crash happened at 4:34 a.m. on March 13 on Interstate 696 near Halsted Road in Farmington Hills, according to police.
Police said an 81-year-old Detroit man was driving a white van the wrong way and crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Blazer SUV.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.
The driver of the SUV, 26-year-old Richard Leon-Zghen, was also injured in the crash. He was taken to Corewell Hospital Farmington Hills and is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
Investigators initially believed the driver of the van was at fault. But digital forensic evidence determined that Leon-Zghen caused the crash.
Police did not release additional details about the crash.
Leon-Zghen was charged with reckless driving causing death, which is a 15-year felony. He was placed in jail with a $250,000 bond.
