A suspect was arrested Friday on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife inside a home in South San Jose, police announced Monday.

The shooting happened at about 6 p.m. at a residence along the 400 block of Don Seville Court, according to police.

Officers responding to the scene learned that the suspect shot his wife inside the home, police said. Once on scene, officers took the suspect into custody without incident as he was leaving the home and found the woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital but did not survive.

Her identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner. The suspect, who was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide, will be identified at a later date, police said.

The shooting is being investigated as San Jose’s seventh homicide of the year, according to police. A motive wasn’t immediately known.
