FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno is looking to rally thousands of volunteers as the city expands its cleanup effort in the lead-up to America’s 250th birthday.

Mayor Jerry Dyer announced that registration is open for Beautify Fresno’s 2026 Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 18.

The event will feature 25 cleanup and beautification sites across the city, running from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., aiming to engage 2,500 participants.

Beautify Fresno is joining Keep America Beautiful and 25,000 communities nationwide for the Great American Cleanup, an effort aiming to remove 25 billion pieces of litter by July 4, 2026, which marks America’s 250th birthday.

Last year, more than 1,100 volunteers collected 15,200 pounds of trash and litter from streets, parks, highway embankments, and riverfronts.

Volunteers also removed more than 50,000 square feet of graffiti in two hours.

The 25 cleanup locations are spread throughout Fresno, including Downtown, the Tower District, Calwa Park, and Woodward Park.

Registration is open to volunteers of all ages, and organizers are encouraging groups, clubs, and businesses to sign up.

Beautify Fresno will provide cleanup materials, and participants will receive a free event T-shirt.
