A lottery player in the Sacramento area was one number away from winning more than $100 million on Monday, according to California State Lottery officials.

The ticket still ended up winning $24,098.

The winning Powerball ticket matched four correct numbers and the bonus Powerball number, according to lottery officials.

Where was the winning Powerball ticket sold in the Sacramento region?

According to a spokesperson for the California State Lottery, the four-number-plus-Powerball matching ticket was sold at Mr. Liquor, 7807 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights. It is near the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue.

Retailers who sell winning lottery tickets receive a sales bonus from the lottery commission. For the Powerball draw game, retailers will earn a 0.5% bonus on the jackpot amount for selling a ticket that wins at least $1 million.

According to the national Powerball site, one player in New York won a $2 million prize Monday with a five-number match plus a Power Play.

More than 42,000 Powerball tickets sold across California on Monday won prizes ranging between $4 and more than $24,000, according to the state lottery website. Nationwide, 241,018 Powerball tickets won prizes Monday.

How much is the Powerball jackpot now?

No one won the jackpot Monday evening, bringing the current top prize to $147 million. The jackpot’s estimated cash value is around $66.6 million, according to the national Powerball website.

The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was on Monday, March 2, when an Arkansas player won $251 million, the national Powerball website reported.

To score a jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturday, Monday and Wednesday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

The next drawing will be Wednesday, March 25. Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
