RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) — The investigation continues into the mass shooting at an Oakland night club that left two people dead earlier this month.

On Tuesday, the family of the teacher killed spoke out publicly for the first time.

The family of Latetia Bobo, killed in a mass shooting in Oakland, stood together to share her legacy.

They wore pins with a picture of the 33-year-old, who died too young.

“She was a successful educator, musical artist, filmmaker, screenwriter, author and entrepreneur,” said Bobo’s brother-in-law, Keith Norman.

Her mother, Godmother, brother and two sisters were among those at the news conference in Richmond.

“Latetia was stubbornly determined for good,” said Rev. Carol Estes, of Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church in Oakland, who was Bobo’s Godmother. “She loved. She was caring. She was kind. She was concerned about others.”

Bobo was shot and killed at EZ’s Lounge on 14th Street in Oakland at the beginning of the month.

Five others were struck by gunfire and survived; 25-year-old Markise Martin also died in the shooting.

Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fife told ABC7 Eyewitness News previously that the lounge didn’t have permits for the event that went into the early morning hours.

Bobo taught at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo.

“It was a joy to work alongside my sister,” said her sister, LaShontae Norman. “I (saw) her blossom as a teacher. She was an excellent 8th grade English language arts teacher.”

Bobo’s family is asking for change to prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.

“We desire the support of city leaders to collaborate with us on ways to ensure laws and policies are effective and implemented with fidelity,” Norman said. “We are pursuing sustainable change through collaboration with city officials, community organizations and members of our community to ensure this does not continue and that something good and impactful can come from the circumstances of her death.”

He said they are just starting the conversation on how to best do this.

The Oakland Police Department said they have no new updates on the investigation. An online fund is raising donations to support her family.
