OAKLAND, Calif. – On March 20 and 21, students from Chico High School represented Butte County at the California Mock Trial event in Oakland.
The Butte County Office of Education says the team from Chico High School, which took home a first-place finish in the Butte County Mock Trial event, competed against 34 teams from counties across California, arguing the case of The People of the State of California v. Fromholz.
Chico High’s team was coached by teacher Casey Van Masis and local attorneys Brenden Blake, Nicole Diamond, and Kathy Richards.

During the California Mock Trial event, the following students from Chico High School took home individual honors for their performances:

The California Mock Trial is held every year, providing students with a hands-on experience of the legal system and helps boost critical thinking, teamwork, and public speaking.
