San Jose police arrested a 69-year-old Gilroy woman in connection with the 2025 death of a dependent adult who authorities say died from neglect.
Enid Acevedo was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony abuse of a dependent adult resulting in death, police officials announced Monday.
Her arrest follows the May 17, 2025, discovery of a 41-year-old man with a developmental disability who was not conscious and not breathing at a home on the 1200 block of Mastic Street in San Jose.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the man, whose name wasn’t released, was emaciated and lacked basic necessities, which led officers to suspect neglect.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an investigation into his death and ruled it a homicide due to neglect, police said.
Detectives identified Acevedo as the victim’s in-home caretaker and arrested her on Wednesday in Gilroy.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still under investigation, according to police.
