A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Muni bus in San Francisco’s Union Square on Tuesday, authorities said.
The pedestrian, identified only as male, apparently fell from the sidewalk onto the path of the 38-Geary bus traveling west on Geary Street around 6:50 a.m., the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said on X.
Emergency responders transported the man to a hospital, where he died, the transit agency said.
“Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family,” transit officials said.
The Muni bus operator was undergoing drug and alcohol testing and will not be driving pending the results of the agency’s investigation, the transit agency said. SFMTA officials said they were cooperating with the police department, which was leading the investigation.
