SACRAMENTO, Calif. (FOX26) — Governor Gavin Newsom signed three gun bills late Friday that will significantly alter firearm sales and carry regulations in California.
One of the new laws, AB 1127, will ban future commercial sales of Glocks and Glock-style pistols starting January 1st.

Lawmakers say the legislation targets pistols that can be converted with commercially available “pistol converters.” The converter allows the semi-automatic pistol to become fully automatic.
Another bill, SB 704, mandates that starting July 1, 2027, purchasing a barrel will require shipment to a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) and a background check through California’s system, along with associated fees.
Additionally, AB 1078 introduces new “sensitive places” with public transit restrictions and establishes an out-of-state carry permit path effective Jan. 1, 2026. It also imposes a three-guns-per-month purchase limit, effective July 1, 2027.
Legal challenges to these laws are anticipated, with lawsuits expected to be filed soon.
