A Tiburon woman was charged with allegedly embezzling over $1 million from a small business in San Francisco, prosecutors said Monday.

Lilian Williams, 52, is charged with three counts of grand theft, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to prosecutors, beginning in 2018, Williams began working for a small family business as a bookkeeper. Over the course of six years, Williams allegedly used her position doing payroll to access systems to steal from her employer.

Prosecutors allege she created two employee profiles for herself and collected paychecks for them every month. She also allegedly used the payroll system to create unauthorized payments, including company loans and reimbursements, which she used to extract money from the company’s bank account.

Williams has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 30.
