The Sacramento Kings have dealt with an absurd number of injuries throughout their disappointing 2025-26 season.
For example, on the morning of their Thursday afternoon matchup in Orlando, Sacramento’s injury report lists Domantas Sabonis (knee), Zach LaVine (finger), Keegan Murray (ankle), Russell Westbrook (toe), De’Andre Hunter (eye), Drew Eubanks (thumb), and Nique Clifford (foot) all as out. Precious Achiuwa (back) and Killian Hayes (toe) are set to return from their short absences as well.
That’s four of the Kings’ head coach Doug Christie’s expected starters, excluding DeMar DeRozan, who has missed just one game this season. The team provided a vague injury update on Westbrook and Murray yesterday, leaving uncertainty as to whether either will return to action in the final nine games.
Due to their slew of unavailability, they were granted an NBA Hardship Exception, the team announced on Thursday.
The Sacramento Kings announced today that the team was granted an NBA Hardship Exception and subsequently signed guard-forward DaQuan Jeffries to a 10-day contract.
This season for the Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G League affiliate, Jeffries (6-5, 222) has posted averages of 23.5 points (51.8 FG%, 43.8 3pt%, 83.1 FT%), 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 33.3 minutes per game over 28 regular season games.
Jeffries has appeared in 111 career games in the NBA, including 25 starts, averaging 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game over five seasons for Charlotte, Houston, Memphis, New York and Sacramento.
Sacramento Kings Media Relations (March 26, 2026)
As mentioned, Jeffries has spent his season with Sacramento’s G League affiliate in Stockton and has helped them have a promising season. Kings’ fans may be familiar with Jeffries, as he signed with the team as a rookie after going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft.
He appeared in just 13 games as a 22-year old rookie out of Tulsa and 31 in the following season before being put on waivers and eventually claimed by Houston. Since then, he’s hopped around with quick appearances as a member of the Rockets, Grizzlies, Knicks, and most recently with the Hornets.
In 47 games with Charlotte last season, including 20 starts, Jeffries averaged 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from three.
Christie has been left with as few as eight active players on recent nights, and the 10-day addition of Jeffries will at least provide a bit more rest and rotational relief for a team that could desperately use it.
